We need to adjust to reflect the difficulties in raising money in the wake of Bush mania. Until that subsides, and it may subside when (Texas Gov. George W. Bush) gets out on the campaign trail and we see what kind of candidate he can be, we need to do things to stay viable.

The Bush campaign fought for the format that is being used tonight and I think was used successfully last week in the vice presidential debate. People seem to like it. It allows for a very thoughtful exchange of ideas and substance, and that's exactly what Gov. Bush intends to engage in tonight.

If it passes, it's almost a resurrection for the governor. It shows he can govern again. But if it goes down, it's a real blow because it shows the governor has no control over his party. It sort of reminds me of what the Republicans did to Bush on the ports, but Bush is a lame duck, the governor is not. He's their best hope in the state for this year.

The Bush campaign is trying to define John Kerry now, but for my money, the defining moment was 35 years ago when both of these young men, graduating from Yale from favored families, had a defining moment in their lives, ... John choose to volunteer and serve his country and risk his life doing so. George Bush did not.

[Gandy criticized the decision based on what is known about Roberts attitude towards women, but also on the basis of what is not known.] How dare Bush nominate this candidate, ... for the top position on the Supreme Court when his administration has deliberately concealed hundreds of thousands of pages of his writings, during a time that he was one of the top lawyers representing the people of the United States? If the Bush administration refuses to release these papers, we must ask ourselves what they are hiding.
