Without science, the world was now much, much smaller and darker.

What we have here is the first, and probably only, thematic science center in the world. It's quite sophisticated.

Science is seen as something that's "neat" when your young but disregarded when you're older. I find that way of thinking offensive.

It's 2005. We have the drugs to treat HIV, and good science shows that condoms and clean needles for injection-drug users can prevent it. But these tools are being withheld due to spending cuts, treaties blocking generic drugs and federally funded programs teaching abstinence-only. Our leaders are taking us backward as HIV rates increase. They must change course.

[As part of the Science study, the researchers sought to understand why the salmon shark's heart continues to function when it is ice cold.] The shark heart slows down in the cold, just as our own heart would, ... But what sets it apart is where our heart would simply stop, the salmon shark keeps on ticking.
